Welcome to my website. My name is Tammy Lyn Appenzellar, and I am an Author and a Free-Lance Writer.
Born on the East Coast, my parents moved out West when I was a young child. After a few years of living in Missoula, Montana, we continued our journey further into the wilds, by moving to a remote ranch in the Blackfoot Valley. For decades, the property had been dude ranch for people to come and hunt, fish, and hike. There was a massive old sprawling ranch house with a food hall and lodge as well as five satellite log cabins for guests. There was no access to television or radio due to the towering mountains and cliffs behind our property. I spent my free time in the great lodge voraciously reading hundreds of books. When I wasn’t reading, I was out exploring the 2,000 acres of wilderness with my horse and my dog.
At the age of nine, I wrote my first book, a fanciful detective novel full of excitement and adventure. I kept writing, eventually moving on to poetry, winning a few awards for my prose. I was sent away from home at the age of thirteen to pursue studies in an environment more conducive to higher academics. There, I studied several languages and began acting in the theater, all the while continuing to write.
As an adult, I traveled to many different countries, spending time living in some, simply visiting in others. As a writer, I observe all that is around me, take note, and spin tales loosely based on these life experiences, copiously peppered with my imagination, which has proven to be quite fertile.
My greatest passion has always been writing. I have penned lyrics for songs, written a handful of novels, several screenplays, a dozen or so short stories, numerous poems, and I do many different styles of free-lance writing for others. A specialty of mine is research and translation in historical non-fiction.
One of my short stories entitled “A Perfect Fit” was published in Twisted South Magazine.
A newly completed manuscript entitled “Combatting Communism with Martinis and Bubblegum – Tales of a Young Girl’s Survival in the Montana Rockies” is currently in query phase.
